Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to provide a fundamental working knowledge of the microcomputer based CAD environment using AutoCAD software on IBM compatible computers. AutoCAD is a command driven program and the first course, GE 211, deals with standard 2D drafting conventions - while the advanced course, GE 212, is almost entirely 3D. You will learn how to manipulate the software to create new drawings, edit existing drawings, save your drawings properly, and learn how to print or plot your drawings. You should also hopefully enhance your computer literacy. The course will be taught with an emphasis on current mechanical drafting conventions and applications; but the skills developed will be transferable to other drafting disciplines, as well as other CAD software packages. Students should expect to spend 2 to 4 hours per week in the lab in addition to their regularly scheduled class time. Open lab hours will be posted in the lab. There are no prerequisites for this class – but a knowledge of Drafting would be helpful.The purpose of this course is to provide a fundamental working knowledge of the microcomputer based CAD environment using AutoCAD software on IBM compatible computers. COURSE NOTEBOOK REQUIREMENTS

One of the requirements of this course is for each student to submit a professional quality notebook of all semester assignments (Plots, Printouts, etc.). The notebook will be submitted to the instructor at midterm and at the last lab session of the semester (prior to the final exam). The gradeyou receive for the notebook will depend on its completeness and thoughtful organization. Each assignment should be as perfect as possible; therefore it is advisable to make corrections and update your work as soon as your marked up work is returned to you.

Please organize your notebook as follows:

1. Assemble the notebook in a good quality, clean3-ring
    binder.

2. Divide your notebook into the following three sections;

        a. Assignments - corrected and marked-up assignments
            in their proper order!

        b. Handouts

        c. Notes

3. Include a typed or plotted cover sheet.
    This cover sheet should include your name, date, course
     title, school, and instructors name.
